XaaS Pricing 1.0 is now generally available to founders, competitive intelligence teams and pricing strategists seeking to make better, faster pricing decisions through data
Author: Bryan Belanger
We started XaaS Pricing about a year ago as an idea on a few PowerPoint slides. We got going with the product as simply as we could — by manually scraping data from pricing pages into our taxonomy, and then into a basic Excel file.
That process fostered some interesting analysis and opened doors to great new relationships and engaging conversations about XaaS pricing across the industry.
That process helped us design XaaS Pricing 1.0, which as of today is generally available to founders, competitive intelligence teams and pricing strategists seeking to make better, faster pricing decisions through data.
Analyze packaging, pricing models, and pricing and discounting strategies of markets and peers
XaaS Pricing 1.0 includes coverage of the product offerings of 25,000-plus SaaS vendors. [Tweet this!] These vendors are categorized into a proprietary segment taxonomy and analyzed across more than 50 metrics pertaining to packaging, pricing models, and pricing and discounting.
Analysis is delivered in a centralized dashboard of overall SaaS industry pricing insights, research reports and analyst content. Deeper dives into specific markets and competitive cohorts can be accessed through Analytics pages on Packaging Models, Pricing Models, and Pricing and Discounting. These views provide additional data on pricing strategy best practices. Data from all graphs in XaaS Pricing are exportable to CSV for further analysis and/or use in company presentations.
Assess your company’s pricing strategy relative to the SaaS market overall and your peers
XaaS Pricing 1.0 includes a Pricing Page Grader on each company’s dashboard. Each quarter, XaaS Pricing’s analyst team grades your company’s pricing page relative to the market and provides a score as well as recommended areas for improvement. [Tweet this!] Old scores are preserved on your dashboard, so you can track how you’ve fared over time since using the XaaS Pricing platform.
Get real-time analysis from competitive and market pricing intelligence experts
XaaS Pricing was built by analysts, for analysts. The XaaS Pricing team will update your dashboard on a regular basis with new data and accompanying analyses to call attention to major trends and developments the team is observing in SaaS pricing best practices.
There’s more to come in all facets of the XaaS Pricing universe, including data updates, tools for manipulating and working with the data, and new platform features. Here’s what’s currently on our road map for the next few months:
Data updates: Our data is updated monthly and quarterly, and these updates are deployed directly to XaaS Pricing. We’ll continue to update the existing data on this cadence.
Data expansion: We are currently collecting data on an array of new companies and adding new first- and third-party data sources to the platform. This includes granular pricing data in areas such as discretionary discounting and sell pricing data as well as average contract values. We’ll also be adding data sets on SaaS financial and operational performance that can be used to filter the pricing data as well as build correlations between pricing models and company performance. In time, we’ll add buyer pricing sentiment data to the platform.
Data filtering and categorization: We’ll be deploying new filters, such as number of employees, financial performance, funding status and geographic location, for you to slice and dice the data. We’ll also be updating and adding data fields as well as refining visualizations to provide better tools for building price comparisons. For example, one of the hardest areas is comparing products with different pricing models, packaging models and/or usage limits. We’ve written about these challenges and what methodologies we use to overcome them but we’ll start to bake those methodologies directly into XaaS Pricing.
Pricing model scoring: We’ll be using financial and operational performance data and other related metrics to establish pricing model scores for the vendors covered by our platform.
Product features: We’re in-process with building an array of new features to improve how you use the XaaS Pricing platform. Some of these will include:
Graph descriptions and definitions for all visualizations and metrics
Tools for longitudinal analysis and time-stamped analysis of XaaS Pricing data
Company profile pages, allowing you to deep dive into all the data we have on a particular competitor
Guided analysis experience, helping you get answers to the market and competitive pricing analysis questions you have faster
